Serena and Lily Spring Sale

March 10, 2020

Serena and Lily Spring Sale

I am a huge fan of Serena and Lily and have had my eye on a few of their pieces for a while. They just launched their spring sale (20% off everything!) so I grabbed them real quick! Use code Freshmix to take advantage of the sale too.

I’ve rounded up some of my current favourites from their sale below and scroll down to see what I actually bought for my home!

Shop my favourites from the sale here:

I love a lot of their wallpapers (I used 3 of them in my last home) and the quality is great. I ordered their feather wallpaper in bone for my youngest sons room (we used it in his last room and are using it again too… I love it that much!). You can see the plan for his room in this post.

I also ordered 2 of their Sunwashed Riviera Counter Stools for my island. I am so excited about these. Not only do they have that casual coastal vibe, they look wipeable and durable for my kiddies to actually use haha

Do you plan to take advantage of their sale? What are you hoping to grab?

A Gentleman’s Office – Photos that are Inspiring Me and the Plan for my Husbands Home Office

December 20, 2019

A Gentleman’s Office – Photos that are Inspiring Me and the Plan for my Husbands Home Office

Generally speaking my husband doesn’t have too many opinions about the decor in our home.  I usually make the choices and on larger items I show him and he gives me a nod or a hard no (which I can usually make into a yes if I really love the idea or item ;)).  But for his office, he has a lot of opinions and wants (as he should haha).   He wants a dark and moody room, that feels classic, traditional and manly…very manly.   It’s been fun choosing items together and finding things we both love. I want to make a space he loves but one that also fits in with the rest of our home.

Whenever I’m starting to design a room,  I look to Instagram and Pinterest for inspiration.   I started by searching ‘masculine offices” and found some very beautiful rooms filled with light woods, dark walls and classic features like trim work, nailheads and tufts on furniture and vintage books. Here are some rooms that are inspiring me (and him!).

image sources: 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8

Taking our inspiration from Pinterest we’ve started ordering a few pieces for the room. Here are the pieces we’ve finalized for his home office so far:

Paint – we will be painting all the walls black!  I know this is shocking since I am such a lover of white…everything!  But black is really having a moment right now and I feel like it will pop so much against all the white walls everywhere else (just like in that 3rd inspiration photo above). We also plan to trim out all the walls as well to tie in with the rest of the house which will also have trimmed walls eventually.

Desk – we ordered the desk shown above back in October and it just arrived this week.  It’s so beautiful in person and is the same wood tone as a lot of the furniture throughout our house.

Rug – since we are going dark on all the walls, I wanted a really light rug in the room to brighten it up. My husbands only request is that it be soft (he is not a jute fan, much to my sadness). I like the plushiness of this rug and the subtle diamond pattern.   We got it for a great price but it is backordered until February so it’ll be a while before it arrives.

Lighting – I saw this gold light on Driven by Decors office reveal and thought it was so beautiful.  I really want to incorporate some gold accents into his office. First because gold against black is so beautiful and second because it’ll again tie in with other gold accents in the house.   I’m excited to see the light in person as it looks to have a nice masculine and classic feel to it.

So that is where we are currently in the office planning. The room also has a window seat and I’ve ordered foam to attempt a DIY window seat cushion but I want to wait until the rug arrives to pick a coordinating fabric for that. We have a few other things to still nail down too – like a chair for the desk!

So while we wait for some of the items to arrive we will be painting the room and working on the trim work. Be sure to follow along on my Instagram stories (@anoblehome) where I share a lot of the daily progress.

A Red and Gold Christmas Tablescape

December 2, 2019

A Red and Gold Christmas Tablescape

After I posted my Thanksgiving tablescape (you can view it here), I had quite a few requests for a Christmas one. Tablescapes and table settings are a favourite of mine, especially holiday themed ones, so I was more than happy to oblige!

Today I’m sharing my red and gold themed Christmas tablescape with you.

Screenshot_20191126-105932_Gallery-03I always start with some greenery, whether real or faux, as I find it really helps fill the table space and adds a nice warmth to the overall space.  This year I used some faux garland and draped it down the middle of the table.  I added some red glass ball ornaments throughout the garland to tie in with the red charging plates.   I felt like it needed just a little something more so I added some little white ceramic houses and some tall white wood trees for height as well.

Screenshot_20191126-105845_Gallery-01-01I used these classic red charging plates and I layered a simple white dinner plate on top on them.  Next I added in these sweet red scallop edged white napkins and these festive dessert plates I’ve had for a few years and absolutely love.  They have 4 different words written across them:  noel, cheer, joy and wish.  So festive right?!  You could add in any decorative plates here though: a gold edged plate or a Christmas patterned one.  The rest of the table setting is so simple, have some fun with the dessert plates!

Now that the table is all set… lets start planning the meal!

An Update on our Powder Room Makeover

November 25, 2019

An Update on our Powder Room Makeover

When we moved into this house I loved the powder room tile so much!  The floor is a marble hex and the marble continues half way up the wall in rectangles mimicing a wainscoting sort of feel.   It’s really stunning and exactly what I would’ve done too.   The rest of the room though felt really disjointed to me.  The toilet and vanity were very modern looking and the vanity was also a dark brown (we know I love white and bright). Neither were my taste and I didn’t feel they suited the classic feel of the tile at all.  The room was also wallpapered and really, it just wasn’t my style.  In addition… the ceiling was painted yellow haha!.  So I knew I wanted to keep the marble but update the rest of the small room to suit our style more.

Here is a photo of what the room looked like when it was listed for sale and basically what it looked like when we moved in (minus the art).

20191123_053921

The first thing we did was update the toilet and the vanity to the ones below.  I love the toilet we chose and its my very favourite toilet (I know, who knew you could have a favourite toilet but its really so pretty).  The vanity we chose I really liked as it has a really pretty white stone counter and I loved the open shelving and slates at the bottom.  Next we removed the mirror and I ordered the round black mirror below for the room (it arrives this week!)

I’ve also changed the faucet to this more traditional one (and here’s a tiny sneak peek at what it’s starting to look like!)

I plan to add wallpaper again to the room and this is the one I plan to order.  It’s the prettiest wallpaper I think I’ve ever seen.

I just need to decide on lighting for the room.  The room doesn’t have a window but I really want to do a single sconce above the mirror, so fingers crossed it doesn’t leave the room too dark.

So thats the plan for the room and the progress we’ve made so far.  Im hoping we can finish it off before the new year (if I write it down here, maybe Ill hold us accountable to it haha).  I can picture it all together and I’m so excited and can’t wait to show you the final reveal!

A Gold and Pumpkin filled Thanksgiving Tablescape

November 22, 2019

A Gold and Pumpkin filled Thanksgiving Tablescape

We hosted Thanksgiving this year and though my husband is generally the chef on this holiday (and basically every other day of the year haha) I get excited to do the decor.  I tried to use a lot of pieces I already owned from previous years but still change it up a bit from last years decor.  This years tablescape is similar to last years but I added a large faux pumpkin as well as some mini faux pumpkins and gold votive candle holders this year.  I love how it came together.

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Our Fireplace got a marble makeover!

November 18, 2019

Our Fireplace got a marble makeover!

When we moved into this house (about 3 months ago) I loved that it had a fireplace but I knew that I wanted to update it.  I’m pretty sure it had the original builder tiles (12×12 floor tiles cut to fit).  They were a boring shade of beige and the install was just not well done. It just looked dated to me.  I knew I wanted to change it to marble and after looking at a few samples I decided to go with a classic rectangular tile for the surround.

Here are some before photos of the fireplace.

After the old tile and drywall was removed, it was discovered that the builder had not built the fireplace out far enough (they just used a thick amount of cement to adhere the old tiles and fill the depth) so a layer of plywood had to be added to bring the depth forward.  Then a new layer of drywall was added and then the tiles could go on!

This is a photo taken after the old tiles and drywall were removed.  You can see how far the fireplace insert sticks out past the wood frame.

This is with the new additional plywood added.

Then the new drywall was added and the tiles went up… it just needs grout!

And finally here is the after!

Im so so happy with the end result, it looks much more updated and matches our style much better.   And it looks so pretty decorated for Christmas!
