I recently made some small changes to our front entry hallway and it’s really made a huge difference to the space. When we moved in, the house had been freshly painted grey and although it was a nice light shade of grey, I truly love white walls. So after living with the grey walls for a year I finally decided it was time to paint and make the house feel a little more like us. I painted the entire main floor and upper hallways in Benjamin Moore’s Simply White. It’s really such a nice white, not too cool or stark with just the right amount of warmth to it. Eventually I plan to replace the baseboards with something more substantial and add crown molding and full panel trim work to the walls (I dream big haha) but for now the white paint has made a huge difference and the space feels so much brighter.

Here are some before photos of the space, taken right when we moved in about a year ago.

As you can tell, I also changed the light fixtures to something more my style. I love the new lights so much. They’re ‘dupes’ of the famous hicks pendants but I got these on wayfair for a fraction of the cost.

Next I added three oversized black frames to one wall and had new mattes made for them so they looked a little more custom. These are the 50×70 size frames. I then framed black and white family photos in them. I love having family photos around the house and I usually print the photos in black and white so they all look cohesive in terms of colouring.

Finally I added this gorgeous Dash and Albert runner. It’s 12 feet long and perfect for the space. It’s an indoor/outdoor rug so I am hoping it holds up well with my kids and is easier to clean (I will have to report back in a few months!). Its also the perfect greige colour, a pretty grey thats warm so it really goes well with the other neutrals in my home.

I’m so excited to continue to work on this space in the future (is a home ever truly done?!) but these small updates have me loving the entryway so much more.
I’d love to hear what you think of the changes I’ve made. Let me know in the comments.

Rachel

Wow! What a difference paint and lighting can make! I love how bright and airy it feels. I cannot wait to see more.
