We didn’t do a nursery for Owen. I know this sounds so horrible but we didn’t do a nursery for 2 reasons. The first reason is we just never had any time. Life with 3 kids is so busy and we were so busy with other home projects that we just never got around to it. The second reason is that we have realized after 3 kids that we never really use a nursery. We co sleep with our babes and our crib gets zero use. So even though he’s only 10 months old, I’m basically jumping right into planning his big boy room! The plan has changed a little bit but I think we’ve finally settled on a final one!
The walls – I first wanted to add board and batten trim all around the room but now I am thinking we will just do one accent wall of this gorgeous Serena & Lily wallpaper behind his bed. The rest of the walls will be painted white.
The bed – I already have the bed – it’s the Pottery Barn Kids Elsie bed. We had a bit of drama with this bed as I actually first ordered it in the colour ‘cloud’. It looked white online and being called cloud I assumed it was white. Well… it arrived and was grey! I was so upset! I tried to see if I could make gray work but it just wasn’t what I planned. I even got quotes for having it painted! Luckily they released the bed in the colour ‘simply white’ and my store was kind enough to let me exchange it (the best service I tell you!). So now all is right!
The nightstand – I need to go to the store and look at the wood sample (so I don’t have another bed incident (decorating tip – look at samples first!), but I’m pretty sure this is the nightstand we’ll be going with. It’s also Pottery Barn Kids – the Emerson nightstand. I love a light wood finish and the simple lines don’t compete with the wallpaper or bed.
Lighting – I picked up a cute white basket style light at my local Homesense (you can see it on my Instagram here) and I’m adding that gorgeous wall sconce above his nightstand. I love that it’s actually a plug in sconce so no extra electrical is needed! (‘Id link it but its since been removed from the Pottery Barn Kids website :()
Decor – I’ll be adding the Ikea Jute rug for texture, some Ikea ribba book ledges to display all his books (I have 3 in each of my kids rooms), a juju hat above his bed and 2 gold frames on the wall with some beachy art prints (which I still have to source).
So that is the overall plan. It’ll have a very neutral, calm and beachy vibe. I’m hoping to have it all done before his first birthday in early October!
